Barnyard Inequalities: Write Inequalities & Graph on a Number Line – 6th Grade – DIGITAL

Description

Could your 6th grade students use practice making sense of inequalities? This engaging drag and drop activity allows students to write inequalities for situations and then show the inequality on a number line.

This set of 20 interactive tasks is designed for Google Slides.

To begin, students must view the slides in edit mode, so they can drag and drop the elements on each slide.

Students read each “barnyard situation” and write an inequality to model the situation.

For example, if they are told, “The hen lays at least 4 eggs every day,” they would create the inequality “x is greater than or equal to 4” by dragging and dropping the inequality symbol.

Once they have an inequality written, they drag and drop the circles and lines to model the inequality on a number line. This is a helpful visual so students can understand that there are infinite possible values that make the inequality true (rather than a single value).

Though inequalities can be a challenging topic for 6th or 7th grade students, thinking through examples with context & visualizing them on a number line will help them to make sense of inequalities and their solutions.

There are 20 inequality word problems altogether. There is also an introduction slide that gives students directions.
