Want to provide your students with a real life application of multiplying fractions? This math project allows students to apply what they know as they help modify Grandma’s recipes for a catering business to feed more or less people.

In this project, students modify recipes by multiplying the ingredient lists. They must multiply fractions by fractions, whole numbers by fractions and mixed numbers by fractions.

This is a great way to show students how important fraction operations are in real life.

Ways to Use the Project:

This project would work well as math centers if you would like students to complete the project in class over the course of 3-5 days (depending on your students and how quickly they complete each station).

However you can also create individual packets for students to complete on their own if you prefer.

Three Parts of the Project:

• In part one, students use the included “Grandma’s Recipes” to multiply ingredients
• In parts two and three, students choose their OWN recipes for a catering business and multiply the ingredients by a fraction and a whole number
