Looking for a fun and engaging way to make math hands on and visual? Using Skittles candy, you can help your students explore a wide variety of math concepts for upper elementary.

Math Concepts Covered:

• Place Value & Rounding with Large Numbers AND Decimals
• Multiplication with Arrays
• Writing Fractions, Adding & Subtracting Fractions
• Non-standard Measurement (working with fractions)
• Area & Perimeter
• Probability
• Measures of Center
• Operations with Whole Numbers
• Order of Operations
• Finding Factors
• Word Problems (add, subtract, multiply & divide)

There are a variety of different types of activities, including hands on investigations, using Skittles to build arrays, measure perimeter and area, and explore probability. There are also skills practice pages that require them to use their bag of candy to solve.

The word problems are on task cards, allowing for individual practice or group practice.

There are also “Would you rather…?” task cards, providing a unique twist on traditional word problems.

Answer keys are included for the word problems. All other activities will be dependent on the assortment of Skittles candies each student receives.

Detailed instructions, extensions and teaching tips are included for each activity, helping you to prepare and teach with confidence.
