This engaging set of “Would You Rather…?” tasks is the perfect way to get students thinking deeply about ratios, unit rate & percent and encourage meaningful math conversations.

This is also a wonderful opportunity for students to learn to justify their reasoning and critique the reasoning of others.

How to Use a “Would You Rather…?” Task

Each math task poses a situation and then asks students a “would you rather…?” question. The situations and questions require students to use relative comparisons involving ratios or address common misconceptions regarding percent to help students connect math to the real world.

Each task includes questions for students to consider as they make their decision to give them a starting point for making a comparison.

They then share their choice and a justification of their choice in the space provided.
